“I’ll be home for Christmas…”
We are all familiar with the famous holiday song “I’ll be home for Christmas”. The lyrics are hopeful and bring back memories of joyous times with families and friends. But what if you are homeless? Where do you find the hope and joy? Over 7300 of our brothers and sisters living in Santa Clara County are living in their cars, in shelters or on the streets.
Last year, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Santa Clara County responded to over 19,600 calls from families across our community requesting help with food, shelter, gas, and medical bills. Many of these families were struggling with homelessness. St. Vincent de Paul assisted by providing over $1,086,000 in direct financial assistance. We also assisted with $409,000 of “in-kind” assistance in the form of food and clothing.
However, many times, the demand for help exceeded our funding and sadly we had to turn families away. Please help us during this holiday season so that no family needing our help will be denied assistance. Please consider adding a “homeless” family to your Christmas giving list by donating to St. Vincent de Paul. “See poverty…Be the Difference” (Dr. Donna Beegle)
