If We Do Not Help, Who Will?
Dear Friends of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul,
We are facing an emergency in Santa Clara County and we need your help. Due to the housing crisis, we are receiving a record number of urgent requests from struggling families facing homelessness.
One client named Michelle called our SVdP Help Line last week because she was living with her teenage daughter in a car. Michele works but had a medical issue which resulted in lost wages for a few months. She was desperate because her car payment was overdue. She worried that it would be impounded and they would lose the only home they had. SVdP made her car payment and prevented Michelle and her daughter from sleeping on the streets.
According to the homeless census taken in January 2019, the number of homeless people living in Santa Clara County has grown by 31% over the last two years*. Yes, we are facing a crisis! If we do not help, who will? We are reaching out to you because our St. Vincent de Paul Council has already exceeded the budget allocated for helping families for this fiscal year. When our funds are gone, we must sadly turn families away. Even a small donation can make a difference in the lives of the poor.
