For the last two years Chevonne and Darren Johst, owners of the Downtown San Jose Grocery Outlet located at 272 E. Santa Clara Street, San Jose, have invited the Saint Lucy Conference of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul to partner with them in the Grocery Outlet Independence from Hunger Food Drive.
This year we received about $2,500 in cash donations from the store customers and were given the 279 pre-packed food bags that the store sold to their customers for $5 each.
All funds from this effort will be used to provide food for the people who visit the Saint Lucy Outreach Office. The organization distributes about 100 food bags per month. Each bag of food has staples and canned goods that will feed a family of four for three or four days.
